Former Lotte Pitcher Dan Straily Finally Earns His First Win of the Season with a Dominant Performance in Triple-A

Dan Straily (36, Iowa Cubs) secured his first win of the 2024 season in his 12th start, pitching 5 innings with 1 hit, 8 strikeouts, and 3 walks against the Omaha Storm Chasers. Despite the declining significance of wins for pitchers in modern baseball, Straily’s victory is a morale booster.

Straily, who began his MLB career in 2012 with the Oakland Athletics and played for various teams including the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros, had a notable stint in the KBO League with the Lotte Giants from 2020 to 2023. He recorded a 32-23 win-loss record and a 3.29 ERA over 89 games.

Returning to the minor leagues this season with the Chicago Cubs, Straily aims for an MLB comeback. Before this win, his season was marred by a series of unfortunate starts, holding a 4.95 ERA with no wins in 11 appearances.

On July 3rd (Korean time), Straily displayed exceptional form, recording his highest strikeout count in a game this season. His fastball in the high 80s, along with a mix of changeups, sliders, and cutters, helped him achieve 6 consecutive strikeouts between the first and second innings.

Straily’s last victory in Triple-A was on June 18, 2022. His minor league career boasts a 66-56 win-loss record with a 4.12 ERA. In MLB, he has a 44-40 record with a 4.50 ERA from 156 games. His last MLB win was on May 28, 2019, against the Detroit Tigers.

Straily aims to follow in the footsteps of Albert Suarez, who returned to MLB this year after an 8-year hiatus. Straily’s immediate goal is to perform consistently in Triple-A to earn another shot in the majors.먹튀검증
